What is Word and Worship?
Imagine for a second that you have had a regular busy week with life, work, relationships, problems and everything else that may invade your life. You decide that for a given amount of time that you are going to turn your attention away from these pressing things and for a few hours you just stop and be still and turn your attention to the one who makes this world seem very small and less of a burden. (Kind of like watching a fire on a cool winter evening.) Imagine that in that place Jesus walked into the room and walked right up to you, placed His hand on your shoulder and started to speak to you.
What would He say?
There is something inside of us that grows as we discover more of His love for us and experience His interaction in our lives. It starts to invade not just the quiet moments but also every area of our life.
What would you then do in response? How would it impact that moment? How does it change the way that you interact with the environment around you? Would you shout? Sing? Work more passionately at whatever it is you are doing? Fall on your face? Love more deeply?
This is the core of word and worship; hearing Gods word to us through not only the written and preached word but also through the brother or sister who sits beside you and lays a hand on you and cares for you. Maybe even through staring at the stars or a forest fire. In fact Christian maturity is being able to hear God speak through every circumstance and experience of life. And worship is our un-inhibited response to His truth realized in our hearts. Doing whatever it is we would do when we have once again fully realized that we are in the presence of the king who died for and now lives in us.This is not just a corporate experience but is most richly known when we are with the “Body of Christ”. It can by no means be limited by generations because we worship the un-limitable one. It is not limited to the presence or absence of program or structure but can certainly be squashed when there is the absence of humility.
